Audi S8 receives 675 hp from ABT Sportsline and a top speed of 290 km/h (180 mph)

If you want a luxury limo that can accelerate as fast as your Ferrari or Lamborghini, you should take a closer look at the Audi S8 tuned by ABT Sportsline. It’s not the first time when ABT Sportsline takes on the S8, but now the vehicle became even more powerful and faster.

Thanks to the ABT Power S New Generation performance tuning, the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine was boosted from 520 hp (382 kW) and 650 Nm of torque to a staggering 675 hp (496 kW) and 840 Nm of torque. As a result, the top speed increased from 250 km/h (155 mph) to 290 km/h or 180 mph.

There are no details regarding the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) but we do know that in the standard form the S8 needs just 4.2 seconds.

Regarding the exterior design, the Audi S8 remains largely untouched and gets new 21-inch ABT DR wheels in mystic black, but ABT also offers them in gun metal and with a smaller 20-ich diameter.

Moreover, the ABT ER-C wheels are available in silver bullet. In addition, the vehicle receives a new exhaust system and a new suspension which lowers the vehicle by 25 mm.

Excellent design, hand-made quality, systematically lighter weight build, and abundant high-level technologies: Audi offers the completely updated A8, its most popular flagship, at Frankfurt’s 2013 IAA. The engine line-up once again is stronger and more efficient; new systems for assistance and the revolutionary Matrix LED headlamps make driving more serene than before.

A8 raises Audi to be counted among the leaders in innovation in the global luxury group, the most challenging category in the automobile industry. One great asset for the large sedan is how light weight it is. The A8 3.0 TFSI with the traditional wheelbase has a curb weight of only 1,830 kg (4,034.46 lbs) – best in its class for all-wheel-drive models.

The main factor for its light build is in its body, which, with the exception of the B-pillars, is entirely aluminium. As an Audi Space Frame (ASF) in design, it weighs in at only 231 kg (509.27 lbs), about 40 per cent lower than a similar construction in steel. The ASF body makes it also possible to lessen weight in numerous other sections, from brakes to fuel tanks.

The length (5.14 m [16.86 ft]), wheelbase (2.99 m [9.81 ft]), width (1.95 m [6.40 ft]), and height (1.46 m [4.79 ft]) stay the same, providing the A8 with the sportiest appearance in the group. The A8 L gets an added 13 cm (5.12 in) both in wheelbase and length. Outfitted with a TDI engine, both body versions have a mere 0.26 drag coefficient. This same measure is 0.27 with a TFSI engine.

Audi S8 tuned by ABT Sportsline

Incredibly fast but providing first-class comfort: the Audi S8 tuned by ABT Sportsline is proof of the fact that you can in fact build a super sports car that is not uncomfortable, noisy and cramped. A luxury limo at its core, this car accelerates as fast as a Ferrari or Lamborghini. “As always, we have timed it precisely: our S8 reaches 100 kph in 3.6 seconds. And in contrast to the serial version, its top speed is 290 kph,” says a proud CEO Hans-Jürgen Abt. To realise this impressive performance, the globally largest tuner of cars produced by the Volkswagen Group has uprated the car from 520 hp / 382 kW to 675 hp / 496 kW and from 650 to 840 Nm.

This is made possible by ABT POWER S New Generation, based upon its own
ABT Engine Control including a special software. And an ABT muffler system optimises the technical part without changing the attractive serial look. The entire performance package has been tested on ABT’s own dynamometer and public roads, also for its stability, which is why in Germany it comes with a 2-year warranty on the basis of the manufacturer’s guarantee – from first delivery and up to 100,000 km.

In visual terms, the Audi S8 has been left largely untouched and cultivates high-end understatement. But you can always order ABT’s alloy wheels. The car in the photo, for example, is equipped with the exciting 21’’ ABT DR in “mystic black”. And the wheels are also available in “gun metal” and in 20’’, as is the cast ABT ER-C. The latter also comes in “silver bullet”. But all this is up to the customer, and 675 hp / 496 kW will always get the wheels turning, anyway.
