Mansory upgrades the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6

The Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6 arrived back in 2013 with an insane price of 379,000 euros and is already a success among oil sheiks and wealthy Chinese businessmen. Still, people want even more from the G63 AMG 6x6 and Mansory seems to understand this and today it revealed its tuning programme for the German six-wheeled pickup.

The standard version of the G63 AMG 6x6 is powered by a 5.5-liter biturbo V8 engine that delivers 544 hp (400 kW) and 700 Nm of torque. Mansory reworked the AMG 8 cylinder twin turbo engine and installed genuine racing components as well as a new exhaust system.

As a result, the V8 engine now delivers an impressive 840 hp (618 kW) and a maximum torque electronically limited at 1,000 Nm. The engine uses the same AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic automatic transmission.

The tuning company didn’t reveal any performance specs for the 3.85-tone pickup but we are sure that the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) is absolutely impressive. The exterior design was also improved with new light elements and body parts made of visible carbon.

Mansory added carbon fiber mirror housings, engine side air inlets and a rear skirt. The interior can also be upgraded with carbon parts as well as the finest Alcantara and flawless fine woods.

When driving in the sand, it is practically not possible to achieve a tire pressure of 0.5 bar just by employing the typical wheel-tire combinations. Typically, the lowest possible tire pressure is 1.0 bar, and anything below could lead to disaster when employing a normal wheel-tire combination. For instance, the tires might come off their rims during steering. Likewise, sand could penetrate the sealing surface between the tire and the rim, possibly causing a slow puncture.

Amazingly, these issues aren’t experienced with the G63 AMG 6x6, thanks to the fact that this vehicle rides on special, two-part 18-inch (45.7 cm) beadlock wheels. When a tire is fitted to this wheel, it is clamped securely between the wheel -- formed by the two halves of the rim -- and internal beadlock ring. The clamping is so secure even when the tire completely losses pressure, it won't come off the rim and sand cannot penetrate.

When tire pressure becomes extremely low, the contact patches of the (37 x 12.5 x 18 inches) all-terrain tires increas, resulting to considerable support while the vehicle is negotiating loose surfaces. This is made possible by two processes.

First, increased contact patches means a plunge in ground pressure, resulting to a reduction in the tendency of the tires to sink or dig into the ground. To prove this point, dropping the tire pressure to 0.5 bar raises the contact patch by around three times. This greatly lowers ground pressure of the G63 AMG 6x6 with kerb weight of 3,850 kg to a level similar to that of a person of average weight.

Second, low tire pressure supports the self-cleaning process when the vehicle runs on muddy and similar surfaces offering better contact, thereby preventing clogging of the tread pattern and ensuring the best possible traction is achieved at all times.
