Usually, diesel-powered cars are not considered sports cars and tuning companies don’t like them, but not this one. As a result, Polish-based MM Performance took the BMW M550d and decided to create a new tuning programme for it. Vorsteiner was the company chosen for the front lip spoiler, rear roof spoiler, a carbon fiber air diffuser and the boot lid spoiler.
The vehicle also comes with a new set of Twist gloss-black Vorsteiner VS-340 wheels wrapped in high-performance Continental tires. Still, Vorsteiner was not the only brand chosen by MM Performance as the company also used official BMW M Performance parts such as the carbon fiber side mirrors and the body stripes and the carbon fiber front grille.
BMW M Performance parts are also found at the interior where the car features an M Sport Alcantara steering wheel, centre console and riser. H&R provided a new set of springs that brings the M550d 35 millimeters closer to the ground. The tri-turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine found under the hood delivers in the standard model an impressive 381 hp and 740 Nm of torque, but thanks to a new powerbox from Hartge the it was boosted to 430 hp and 850 Nm of torque.
Both the BMW M550d xDrive and BMW M550d xDrive Touring are fitted with a number of M aerodynamic elements, lending these M vehicles precisely controllable dynamics. The sporty and elegant looks of the BMW M550d xDrive and BMW M550d xDrive Touring are accentuated by front and rear aprons that could further help optimize airflow.
In addition, both the BMW M550d xDrive and BMW M550d xDrive Touring feature a front end laden with massive air intakes. In addition, the spaces around the outer air intakes where the fog lamps typically mounted (on regular 5-Series models) have now been employed to improve inflow of cooling air.
The front apron features a three-dimensional shape with air-channeling flaps located at the lower edge of the outer intakes, which in turn are divided horizontally by Ferric Grey metallic-finished bars. The exterior mirror caps and the optional 20-inch M light-alloy wheels are also wrapped in the same finish. As standard, the B-pillars, exterior mirror base and window surrounds feature the BMW Individual High-gloss Shadow Line trim.
On the other hand, the rear apron of the BMW M550d xDrive and BMW M550d xDrive Touring offer a dynamic form as well as an integrated diffuser element that help boost their sporty looks while optimizing airflow around the underbody. The top edge of the Black insert features a horizontal trim strip that helps underscore the width of the models. Both models are provided with exhaust tailpipes located to the outer edges of the rear end and feature trapezoidal embellishers in Chrome Dark. Both the boot lid and the front door sills boast of the "M550d" lettering.
Meanwhile, both BMW M550d xDrive and BMW M550d xDrive Touring comes with an interior oozing with the familiar M ambience, thanks to a number of elements like the M leather steering wheel with gearshift paddles, gearshift lever with M logo and the M driver's footrest, as well as the BMW Individual roof liner in Anthracite and Aluminum Hexagon interior trim strips. Meanwhile, the sports seats of these M models are wrapped in M variant Alcantara/Cloth in Grey Shadow with contrast stitching as well as an embossed M logo. Customers could avail of Dakota leather for the seats at no added charges.
