As you may know already, the Honda CR-Z is quite popular in Japan and the model recently received a facelifted version at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. But for those who want even more, Mugen prepared the RZ version of the CR-Z and as expected it will be offered in a limited edition of just 300 units.
Each unit will cost ¥4,494,000 or $57,000 and will come with a special body kit consisting of a new front spoiler, revised grille, new side skits, a new rear roof wing and a new rear apron with integrated air diffuser and exhaust system.
The design is completed by the 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in high performance Dunlop Direzza Z II tires. Behind the wheels we find the high performance brakes but also a new adjustable suspension.
The interior features two-tone seats, a new carbon fiber gear knob and a number plaque. Under the hood, we find the same 1.5-liter engine, delivering 156 hp and 185 Nm of torque, teamed with the electric motor which delivers 20 hp.
Dubbed by the EPA as the “2011 Most Efficient Two Seater”, the 2012 model of the Honda CR-Z is once again introduced without the silver mesh seats of the old models. Now with a black seat and Crystal Black Pearl exterior, the new Honda CR-Z can be purchased at the price of $19,545 with a handling fee of $770.
Marketed in two unique models, customers can choose between the well-appointed Honda CR-Z and the premium Honda CR-Z EX. It is equipped with a standard six-speed manual transmission or the optional CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). Other incredible features include the six-speaker audio system with AM/FM/USB/CD modes, the Vehicle Stability Assist, automated climate control, cruise control, remote entry, power locks and windows, and many more.
In addition to the standard features, the Honda CR-Z EX is also equipped with HID (High-Intensity Discharge) Headlights with automatic on/off function, fog lights, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink, a 360W Premium Audio System (AM/FM/CD modes) that comes with seven speakers and subwoofer, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, among others. It can also be upgraded with a Satellite-Linked Navigation System that is capable of voice recognition.
Technological Advancement In and Out
To achieve a wide forward posture, the car’s external wedge form starts from its lowly suspended hood. To highlight the vehicle’s sporty appearance and to enhance its dynamic attributes, its side profile was built with a deep beltline while incorporating the large front grille with a low wheelbase. Color options for the car’s exterior include Milano Red Pearl, Premium White Pearl, Crystal Black Pearl, Storm Silver Metallic and the North Shore Blue Metallic (only available exclusively for the CR-Z).
